Something that a lot of girls struggle with but don't talk about is weight loss. I have always struggled with my weight, which had led to self-esteem issues all through elementary, middle, and high school. I eventually decided it was time to do something about my weight just so I would feel better about myself in everyday life.
Since March of 2023, I have lost 65 pounds but made sure to do it in a healthy way. I started seeing a lot of recipes on Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest of things to help lose weight and decided to give some of them a try. At this time, I was also seeing a lot of gym videos and workouts on TikTok and Instagram which gave me the motivation to start going to the gym.
A few months later, I went through a really hard break up and quickly realized that I really wanted to work on me for a while. I kept eating in a calorie deficit as I had been for a few months prior to this point and really pushed myself in the gym. I started learning that lifting weights helped make me stronger, so I was able to push myself even harder. During this time period I was eating about 1,200 calories a day and trying to get in as much protein as I could. I was trying to eat my bodyweight in protein, so about 120-160 g of protein in a day (which, by the way, is so hard to do).
In the gym I would usually start out by lifting a specific targeted area for that day (whether it was legs, glutes, arms, etc.) and push myself for as long as I could. I would then go do cardio for about 30 minutes either on the treadmill or stair master or sometimes even both. Between eating good and going to the gym consistently, I started seeing results and started feeling better.
Of course I didn't see results right away, but that's where we learn to trust the process. If we do learn to just trust the process and keep going, we will see the results that we want to see. Everything takes time and that's okay, it took me almost two years to get to where I'm at today and I'm still not where I want to be completely.
I'm not saying that what I did will work for everyone, this is just what I learned on my own that happened to work for me and my body. Always remember to be kind to yourself and care for YOU. <3
