Big Sister 101

Having a little sister is like having a built-in best friend. It's like having a bestie that's down to go anywhere anytime. Want to go on a late-night drive? She's down. Want to run to Target? She's down. From late nights of spilling the tea to gossiping about boys, there's never really a dull moment.

My sister and I were born three years apart, but here's the catch, we were born on the same day. So yes, we do share a birthday. We both started playing soccer at the same time, I was 8 at the time. We both grew up playing the sport together in the same leagues, so we eventually played together in high school. She started shooting archery about a year before I did, so I figured I would try it too because I had to tag along anyway. We now shoot on the same archery teams when I'm at home, so we end up spending a lot of time together.

A lot of nights at home consist of "spilling the tea" together about high school drama and talk about our relationships and boyfriends until really late at night. Sometimes it's also nights of facials, hair care, and makeup while listening to music together. During Covid it was nice to have someone to sit and play games with and talk to during the whole social distancing time period. We would watch movies and TV shows together, and even hopped on the BookTok trend at one point and got really into reading.

When I started to get really sick with autoimmune, she was one of the very few people that stuck around and helped me do things when I couldn't even do them myself. She would help me bring stuff up and down the stairs because I couldn't do it, and she would leave nice notes in my room with candy in hopes to make me feel better.

I am forever grateful to be given a built-in bestie to do everything with. Go to their sporting events and show that you care about what they are passionate about. Talk with your siblings and check in with them after their days, listen to what they have to say and be that support system. I think it is so important to have a good bond with your siblings because they are basically your bestie for life. My little sister is my "partner in crime" who is always down for whatever and she's my built-in shopping buddy and gym partner.
